In the previous blogpost, we have looked at the video on Free-Radical Substitution (FRS) mechanism of Alkanes which consists of three steps:
- Initiation
- Propagation
- Termination
Through that video, you also understand that halogenation of alkanes via FRS is NOT a good method to obtain halogenoalkanes since the Extent and Position of Substitution is difficult to control.
In view that these concepts are commonly tested in GCE A-Level H2 Chemistry Examination and its equivalents, we shall look at an examination question and discuss the “Position of Substitution” concept via the video below.
