I anticipate the joy of interacting with youths and unleashing their potential so much that, I started coaching Secondary Schools students during my Bachelor Degree in Applied Sciences (Chemistry) in local National University of Singapore (NUS), helping them in breaking through their academic results. I have also remained as a mentor for those that I have coached, giving them advice on higher educations and career choices. In fact, many of my former students will be joining the Chemical Industries (Biotechnology, Petrochemicals, Semi-Conductors & Pharmaceuticals) in near future after realizing their true interest in Chemistry. At the moment, I am continuously upgrading my teaching skills through self-development workshops, seminars and books, Chemistry Journals and News, in order to ensure that I deliver my knowledge of Chemistry effectively and efficiently.
Having acquired knowledge in the different fields of Chemistry during my Polytechnic days (hands-on learning) and University days (theory crunching), I am excited to be able to communicate experiences, real life Chemistry observations, apt analogies – all this to simplify the Chemistry Concepts for students to grasp and remember in an easier manner.
Besides chemistry coaching, i have also several years of experience as a Senior Technical Product Specialist/Manager for the fast-growing Research Chemical Industry. Through my extensive experiences in the Chemical Research arena, I am constantly talking to aspiring scientists and researchers in Singapore Biomedical Industry, as well as Deans, Head of Depts and educators in local universities (NUS / NTU) and schools – and such updated research and market trends are always the highlights when students asked about how each Chemistry topics relate to real life situation in Singapore.
I am also the Vice Head of my Secondary School Alumni Club. Together with my alumni, we have conducted Motivation Forums to graduating classes to prepare them for their GCE ‘O’ Level Examinations. Our team had participated each academic year, with the aim of motivating students towards areas of Confidence Building, Time Management, Career Opportunities, Poly/JC Route and other things that students finds it uncomfortable to talk to their school teachers. Most importantly, our Alumni Team provides the motivational support for graduating students during this stressful period before their major examinations.
In 2012, I am honored to be invited by my alma mater secondary school to be part of the School Advisory Committee, working closing with both the School Management Committee and Parents Support Group to chart the future of the school.
Now, i spend my time on the research and development of my GCE A-Level H2 Chemistry course materials for JC students in Singapore.
