In this chemistry blogsite which is meant for A-Levels H2 Chemistry (as well as H1 Chemistry), all our blog post discussions will be based on the above topical terms. As such, you can do a search for specific topic via the search bar or category located on the right hand side of this blog.

For specific learning outcomes per topic, please go to Singapore Examination and Assessment Board (SEAB) to download a copy of the syllabus requirements.

Note:

A-Levels and Integrated Programme (IP) Chemistry students taking the GCE A-Level H2 Chemistry in Singapore will be assumed to have knowledge and understanding of Chemistry at GCE O-Level (or other equivalents), as a single subject (Pure Chemistry subject code: 5072) or as part of a balanced science course i.e. Combine Science (Chemistry/Biology or Chemistry/Physics).

If you need to brush-up your GCE O-Level Chemistry knowledge, please go to my O-Level Chemistry Blog SimpleChemConcepts.com that was started 3 years ago.

Content Objective for A-Level H2 Chemistry

Since the primary aim for this chemistry blogsite is to provide academic support for Advanced Level (A-Level) Chemistry students, we would need to take reference from a certain chemistry syllabus.

In view that i am based in Singapore, discussions will be based on the famous Singapore-Cambridge A-Level Chemistry Syllabus which is offered in all Junior Colleges and Centralised Institute. We will cover all the core topics that is required for A-Level H2 Chemistry students, such as:

A) Physical Chemistry

  1. Atoms, Molecules & Stoichiometry
  2. Atomic Structure
  3. Chemical Bonding
  4. The Gaseous State
  5. Chemical Energetics
  6. Electrochemistry
  7. Equilibria
  8. Reaction Kinetics

B) Inorganic Chemistry

  1. Chemical Periodicity (The Periodic Table)
  2. Gp II Elements
  3. Gp VII Elements
  4. Transition Elements

C) Organic Chemistry

  1. Hydrocarbons
  2. Halogen Derivatives
  3. Hydroxy Compounds
  4. Carbonyl Compounds
  5. Carboxylic Acids & Derivatives
  6. Nitrogen Compounds

PS: A-Level H1 Chemistry has about half the content of H2, but the content would be studied to the same depth as it is at H2. Check Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) to have a clearer picture.

In order to benefit from A-Level H2 Chemistry, students must have Basic Chemistry knowledge and understanding of Chemistry at O-Level, as a Pure Science subject or as part of a Combine Science course. If you need help with regards to Basic Chemistry, please check out our GCE O-Level Chemistry Blogsite.

PPS: If you are taking other A-Level or equivalent Chemistry syllabuses, you can check with the SEAB website to see if the course content is similar to what you have.

Hello ALL Chemistry Students!

Welcome to A-Level H2 Chemistry! My name is Sean Chua and i am the principal author of this Chemistry Blogsite for students doing Advanced Level Chemistry (A-Level Chemistry). Click HERE if you want to know more about me.

Back in 2006, i observed that many students are surfing internet to find additional  resources to help them improve their Chemistry grades. However, there wasn’t that many quality Chemistry Website or Blogsite to help them at that time.

In 2007, i embarked on starting the first Chemistry Blogsite (www.SimpleChemConcepts.com) in Singapore with the primary aim of helping GCE O-Level students to learn Basic Chemistry in an  interesting and interactive way , complimenting what they are learning in their secondary schools. After 3 years, the blog has grown in popularity and has an average of 600 daily page views from 121 countries / territories.

However. with many batches of my own students going for higher education in College and studying Advanced-Level (A-Level) Chemistry, a new website to discuss more Advanced Chemistry Concepts is required . This prompted me to start A-Level H2 Chemistry to provide support for Junior College (JC) & Integrated Programme (IP) students doing GCE A-Level Chemistry (H1 / H2).

In short, this blogsite is dedicated to help:

  • Chemistry (A-Level/IP/IB) Students – source of Advanced Chemistry Tips & Exam Strategies
  • Educators (Teachers/Tutors) – platform to discuss & learn effective Coaching methodologies
  • Parents/Guardians - tips to help their child to achieve the Chemistry grades they truly deserve

I will be doing my best to blog once every week to share with readers on:

  1. Chemistry Tips
  2. Chemistry Exam Strategies
  3. Chemistry Phenomenon
  4. Coaching Tips
